Ein Yahav

During the desert trip, we stayed overnight in a zimmer in Ein Yahav moshav, where I ran my lamp.
Night-time is when insects get out in the desert!
Many moths were of an afrotropical origin.

Desert trip

On 8th and 9th of November we drove around the Israeli deserts: went south through the Negev and then north through the Arava valley to the Dead Sea, Judean hills and back to Rehovot.
There were hardly any insects during daytime! I only managed to shoot a skipper butterfly near Beit Jamal monastery and a couple of critters near Ta’oz village.

Ashdod

On 7th of November been to a sandy rubbish tip in the city of Ashdod.

At first I thought these grasshoppers were the same Eyprepocnemis plorans I’ve seen in Rehovot. But the structure of tarsi suggests these are in fact a Heteracris sp., probably H. littoralis:

Lots of Pimelia angulata darkling beetles were running around:

Rehovot

Of course I was light-trapping there!

This appears to be Choreutis sexfasciella, and I am not sure if it was reported from Israel…
Upd: It was, shortly after my trip: Rittner, O., 2019. The first documented report of metalmark moths (Lepidoptera: Choreutidae) in Israel, with the first record of Oriental Choreutis sexfasciella (Sauber) in the Palearctic. // Israel Journal of Entomology 49 (1): 63-67.

These crambids were common, they are still to be identified:

Rehovot

Went to Israel for a week, from 5th to 12th of November. Quite hot there, with daytime temperatures around 30° C.
Mostly stayed at a relatives’ house in the city of Rehovot, where I’ve found a nice rubbish tip with some insects =)

The commonest species of grasshopper was Eyprepocnemis plorans:

Numerous Lesser Fiery Coppers (Lycaena thersamon) were flying around Polygonum equisetiforme, their hostplant:
