Hutchinson’s Bank

A warm, partially cloudy day, +20° C. Been to Hutchinson’s Bank in New Addington.

There is an introduced population of Glanville Fritillary (Melitaea cinxia) at the site, maintained by local enthusiasts, which was my primary goal.
Mission accomplished:

Small Blues (Cupido minimus) are frequent:

Hutchinson’s Bank

A mostly cloudy day, +28° C. Been to New Addington.
A tortoise bug (Eurygaster sp.), in most of Surrey it would be E. testudinaria, but here on chalk E. maura is also a possibility:

Nemophora metallica longhorn moths are not uncommon around Field Scabious (Knautia arvensis). The Small Scabious (Scabiosa columbaria) grows right alongside, but these moths don’t seem to be interested in it:

As well as Common Green Grasshoppers (Omocestus viridulus) — apparently a declining species in Britain, but common at this place.
Saw two green males:

South Norwood Country Park and Hutchinson’s Bank

A hot, sunny day, +26° C.
Went to South Norwood Country Park to check out the flowering Hogweeds and try to catch the Cydia medicaginis tort for a photoshoot.
I guess I should have come earlier in the year for the latter, as the only one I got was already tattered. In any case, not much around at all 😦

Nemophora fasciella longhorn moth, quite a rare and local species:

Platystoma seminationis fly was not infrequent on Hogweeds:

Hutchinson’s Bank

A fairly warm (+15° C), but mostly cloudy day, with some spells of both sunshine and rain. Went to New Addington.

There is apparently an introduced and artificially sustained population of Glanville Fritillary (Melitaea cinxia) at the site, although I didn’t see any. Saw quite a few Dingy Skippers (Erynnis tages), but couldn’t get a decent shot.
Oedemera nobilis:

Hutchinson’s Bank

A great day, warm and sunny, +21° C. Went to New Addington. There are some works at Croydon, and there are no trams between Reeves Corner and East Croydon stations, and you have to walk between them for ~10 minutes. Got myself new running shoes while doing that =)

Holly Blues (Celastrina argiolus) are quite numerous.
