Box Hill

A warm, sunny day, +23° C. Been to Box Hill.

Pyrausta nigrata was common on the downland, but very wary and hard to shoot:

Pyrausta purpuralis was less common:

Also saw Pancalia leuwenhoekella and Small Purple-barred Moth (Phytometra viridaria), but couldn’t get any shots.

At the foothill, near the Stepping Stones car park, there’s a wood with plenty of Ramsons (Allium ursinum). I’ve looked for the flies that settled on it, hoping to find Portevinia maculata, but I guess it is a bit early in the season for it. Saw Baccha elongata though, but couldn’t get a shot.

Otherwise, just the usual stuff. Syrphus sp.:

Some small, dark Eupeodes sp.:
